Your new companyHays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a highly established specialist SEND school in the heart of Chester City centre as they are looking to recruit motivated and reliable teaching assistants for full-time, long-term temporary contracts. The working hours within this school are 8:45am - 4:45pm but 8:45am - 3:30pm can be accommodated.Your new roleAs a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting pupils with complex and profound SEN across EYFS - KS4 year groups. You will support your new pupils on a 1:1 basis, taking a pupil-centred approach to their learning and adapting to best suit their needs. As you will typically be supporting a dual diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal, you will liaise with class teachers to ensure that each pupil's EHCP, care and attainment needs are met as well as offer interventions in speech and language. You will utilise Makaton and PECs to communicate with your pupils and use the schools traffic light system to monitor behaviour. In the event that behaviours escalate, you will implement a myriad of behaviour strategies, typically consisting of regulation, distraction and de-escalation as well as the utilisation of sensory rooms.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, recent referenceable experience supporting children or adults with complex needs, and:

  • Referenceable experience supporting ASD and/or non-verbal
  • Experience using Makaton and PECs is advantageous
