What is a Validation Specialist?

A Validation Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring that products, systems, and components meet the required safety, quality, and performance standards. This role involves thoroughly testing and reviewing the systems to confirm they work as intended and are safe for use. You'll be responsible for planning and executing validation activities, documenting the results, and working with the team to resolve any issues or deviations. Essentially, you are the key person ensuring that the final product is ready for deployment in the real world and performs safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Validation Specialist, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Validation Planning & Execution: Develop and execute a validation plan to ensure that products and systems meet users' requirements, particularly in terms of safety, quality, and operational suitability for the intended environment.
  • System Understanding: Gain a deep understanding of the system or subsystem within its intended operational environment, ensuring it aligns with functional requirements and standards.
  • Review & Testing: Review system and subsystem requirements against environmental and functional use cases. Conduct detailed testing to evaluate performance and compliance.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Thoroughly document all validation activities and produce comprehensive validation reports that outline findings and recommendations.
  • Deviation Management: Identify and assess deviations in requirements or testing results, managing them appropriately by submitting them to the relevant change management processes.
  • Risk Evaluation: Classify deviations in terms of risk impact and ensure all non-conformities are managed and closed out.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with the project team and other stakeholders to ensure validation tasks are completed effectively and within project timelines.
  • Audits & Inspections: Conduct audits, inspections, and reviews throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring all validation efforts meet the required standards and regulations.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a validation or testing role, particularly in [specific field, e.g., transportation systems, engineering, safety-critical environments].
  • Solid understanding of validation processes and methodologies, including risk analysis and compliance with industry standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of ETCS (European Train Control System) implementation and/or Rolling Stock is essential for this role.
  • Ability to develop and implement detailed validation plans.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess and mitigate risks.
  • Experience in reviewing and analysing test cases and validation reports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document findings, create reports, and interact with stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently to ensure accuracy in validation processes.
  • Experience with safety integrity levels (SIL) and managing hazardous logs in safety-related systems is a plus.
