Senior Bookkeeper – Colchester

We are currently recruiting for a passionate and highly motivated Senior Bookkeeper on behalf of a well-established, dynamic firm based in Colchester. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive day-to-day bookkeeping and VAT support for a diverse portfolio of clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bookkeeping:
    • Accurately process financial records and correct any errors.
    • Strong mathematical and analytical skills for meticulous record-keeping.
    • Process payments, invoices, income, and receipts, ensuring documentation is retained.
    • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements.
    • Conduct reconciliations to support the preparation of year-end financial statements.
    • Post opening balance adjustments after finalising year-end statements.
  • VAT:
    • Collaborate with the team to ensure timely submission of VAT returns.
    • Prepare VAT reconciliations on a quarterly, monthly, or annual basis.
    • Calculate VAT under various schemes, including Flat Rate, Partial Exemption, and Group VAT returns.

Person Specification:

  • A strong communicator with a positive approach to work.
  • Adaptable, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Takes responsibility for tasks and identifies areas for improvement.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and a calm approach when liaising with clients.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills to ensure deadlines are met.

Key Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent).
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills and the ability to prioritise.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for client and colleague interaction.
