Product Development Engineer - Mechanical Design

Reed are partnered with leading engineering manufacturer who are seeking a Product Development Engineer with a strong background in Mechanical Design to deliver innovative design solutions and drive our product development initiatives.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Lead the introduction of internally designed products, from concept through to manufacture, including creating 3D CAD models using SolidEdge 3D software.
  • Develop technical drawings, product specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and product costings to enable manufacture.
  • Select and source appropriate third-party components for designs.
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, regulatory standards, and performance levels for safety, function, and reliability.
  • Conduct independent research to understand relevant codes and standards.
  • Collaborate with the production team to address design concerns, develop jigs/fixtures, and resolve problems effectively.
  • Support sales through the creation of sales drawings, preliminary technical specifications, site visits, and providing technical advice.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance product quality, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Assist management in developing accurate estimates of time, resources, and materials for projects.
  • Perform additional duties as required to ensure the successful delivery of all ongoing products within the company workstream.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 8+ years’ experience as a design or product development engineer within sectors such as data centres, construction, transport, or material handling.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in 3D modelling and technical drawing, specifically for sheet metal design; SolidEdge preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of leading technical discussions and presenting ideas clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and engage with stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proactive, self-driven attitude.
  • Adaptability and willingness to undertake diverse tasks.
  • UK driving license.
