Purpose of the Role:

The Finance/Accountancy Officer provides financial support services to Headteachers and Governing Bodies, ensuring effective delivery of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with schools.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Financial Support: Assist the Principal Accountant (Schools) with all aspects of the school finance service, including budget preparation and management.
  2. Budgeting: Help prepare annual budgets for primary, secondary, and special schools.
  3. Year-End Accounts: Assist with financial year-end closure and the production of final accounts.
  4. Projections: Prepare financial forecasts to help schools utilise resources effectively.
  5. School Visits: Visit schools to provide advice on budgets, reports, and administrative problem-solving.
  6. Queries: Respond to queries from schools, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders regarding payments and charges.
  7. Reporting System: Maintain and reconcile the Financial Reporting System for primary schools with the authority ledger.
  8. Legislative Compliance: Stay updated on relevant legislation and ensure adherence to audit trails, VAT regulations, financial codes, and other policies.
  9. Payment Processes: Support creditor payments, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and codes of practice.
  10. Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with the team and carry out other duties as designated by the line manager.
