Are you a seasoned finance professional looking for a leadership role where you can drive financial governance, risk management, and compliance? My client is seeking a Financial Controller to take ownership of financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and integrity while supporting strategic decision-making.

The Role

As Financial Controller, you will play a critical role in shaping the organisation’s financial future. Working closely with the Finance Director and senior leadership, you will oversee financial controls, audits, forecasting, and reporting, ensuring full compliance with UK GAAP & IFRS.

You will also lead and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities of the Financial Controller :

  • Lead financial reporting, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP & IFRS.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, producing accurate financial statements.
  • Implement and maintain strong financial controls and policies.
  • Oversee audits, working with external auditors to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Monitor financial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure full compliance with tax, VAT, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance financial efficiency.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with strong post-qualification experience.
  • Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Head of Finance, or Senior Finance Manager role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS reporting standards.
  • Experience in financial planning, budgeting, and variance analysis.
  • Leadership and people management skills, with experience leading finance teams.
  • Retail industry experience (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of tax, VAT, and regulatory compliance.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.
