About the Role:
We are working with a leading facilities management company that is looking for an ambitious and detail-oriented Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team. This role provides vital support to the Quantity Surveyor/Senior Quantity Surveyor in managing the commercial, financial, and contractual elements of our projects.
This role plays a key part in ensuring cost reports are completed on time, subcontractor accounts are procured and valued correctly, and company policies are followed. You will work under the supervision of the wider commercial team, gaining exposure to various aspects of the industry while developing strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Management: Assist in preparing and analysing project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports. Ensure accurate cost allocation and tracking against project milestones.
- Procurement Support: Aid in the procurement process, including preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and managing subcontractor and supplier relationships.
- Contract Administration: Support the administration of contracts, ensuring documentation accuracy and compliance with legal and contractual requirements.
- Valuation & Payments: Contribute to the valuation process for completed work, manage interim payments to subcontractors, and assist in preparing final accounts.
- Risk Management: Assist in identifying and mitigating financial and contractual risks to protect the company’s interests.
- Client & Stakeholder Liaison: Maintain effective communication with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project financials and timelines.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare regular financial reports and maintain comprehensive project documentation for auditing and reference.
- Additional Tasks: Support the commercial team with any other reasonable management requests.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
- A degree (or currently studying towards) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Basic understanding of construction and contract law.
- Previous experience in a construction environment (New Build, Refurbishment, R&M) in a similar or supporting role.
- Membership or working towards membership of a professional body such as RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors).
- Familiarity with JCT/NEC contracts.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations in construction.
