Senior Practice Accountant

Location: Coventry, CV3 5HW.
Salary: £28,000 - £38,000 subject to experience
Contract: Full time, permanent.

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Accountant to join the team and help shape our culture. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and will have a strong background in accounting practice, demonstrate excellent analytical skills, and possess the ability to manage multiple client accounts efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Client Management:
o Manage a portfolio of SME and personal tax clients, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of accounting & tax services.
o Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing advice and support on financial matters.
o Identifying opportunities for tax savings and efficiency for clients.

• Financial Reporting and Compliance:
o Prepare and review statutory accounts in compliance with UK GAAP
o Preparation and submission of corporation tax returns and personal tax returns.
o Review of VAT returns
o Preparing management reports & cashflow analysis

• Bookkeeping and Payroll:
o Review of bookkeeping, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
o Help process and review client payrolls including CIS

• Practice Support:
o Working closely with the junior accountant and overseeing their day to day. Fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
o Always looking for opportunities to improve the practice.
o Monitoring tasks and workflow templates across all internal software regularly to ensure it is up to date, accurate and free from errors.
o Be a key support to the principle accountant in fulfilling their duties, enabling them to focus on the business from a strategic point of view.

Key Experience and Qualifications:

• Professional Qualifications:
o Part/Full ACCA / ACA / ATT or similar, or qualified by experience

• Experience:
o Minimum of 5 years of experience in a practice accounting environment if qualified
o 10 years' experience if qualified by experience
o Proven experience in managing a diverse portfolio of SME clients.
o Strong experience with accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, BrightPay).

• Skills:
o Excellent knowledge of UK GAAP and UK tax legislation.
o Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o Client-focused with a proactive approach to solving client issues.
o Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
o Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
