About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join the Pathways Provision at a welcoming and supportive school in Coventry. This provision caters to Reception and Key Stage 1 children (ages 4-6) with complex needs. You will work alongside a class teacher and a team of skilled teaching assistants to provide tailored support that meets each child's unique learning and developmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support children with sensory processing disorders, ASD, and non-verbal communication needs.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering structured learning activities.
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) to support children's progress.
  • Use a range of communication strategies, including PECS, Makaton, and visual aids.
  • Create a safe, engaging, and sensory-friendly learning environment.
  • Work closely with the wider team, including therapists and SENCOs, to meet pupils' needs.
  • Provide personal care support where necessary.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience working with SEN children, particularly those with sensory needs, ASD, and non-verbal communication challenges.
  • A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach.
  • Understanding of communication tools such as PECS or Makaton (desirable but not essential).
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • A valid DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
