An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Materials Controller with good analytical skills and cost saving expertise to join a global supplier based in Cradley Heath.

This role is to become an important part to the material control team and wider supply chain department and play an important role in cost saving, managing supply base and sourcing suppliers and managing parameter reviews.

This is materials planning role with aspects of purchasing and supply chain. So it is a varied and challenging role but working in a stable, experienced team that work very collaboratively and also always self disrupting to continuously improve.

Within the team your main responsibilities are controlling an annual spend of approx. £10m and executing the strategy in material cost, technical and quality standards, lead times, and service levels.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Source new suppliers based on specific qualification and selection criteria to support growth, risk reduction, and new product developments.
  • Evaluate suppliers continuously on delivery performance and cost, maintaining accurate records of all supplier details, including performance metrics.
  • Ensure quality is upheld through engagement with Group Quality personnel.
  • Manage supplier pricing records and monitor supplier performance.
  • Address supplier underperformance promptly, including terminating current agreements and sourcing suitable replacement suppliers.
  • Manage purchase orders through an MRP system, including placement of orders and supplier expediting.
  • Negotiate and implement cost reduction procedures and conduct monthly reporting.
  • Manage inventory levels to meet company targets and work with suppliers regarding inventory held at their facilities.
  • Submit regular reports to the Management Team to meet company deadlines.
  • Ensure supplier on-time delivery performance aligns with acknowledged targeted due dates.
  • Undertake specific project-based duties as defined by the Management Team.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have experience of material planning or supply chain experience within a manufacturing/engineering environment.
  • Must have stock planning/stock control experience.
  • Must be computer literate with practical working knowledge of MRP Systems, Microsoft Word, and Excel (intermediate or Advanced level)
  • CIPS qualification is advantageous.
  • A valid driving license is advantageous due to location of the office.
  • Experience in inventory parameter review analysis is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet company supply chain goals.
