Key Responsibilities

  • Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive regard
  • Helping young people manage behaviour by offering structure and insight into unacceptable behaviour and rewarding positive behaviour
  • Ensuring that each young person's care plan is followed and kept up to date to reflect their changing needs
  • Provide a home where young peoples daily needs are met in relation to childcare including cooking, cleaning, general maintenance around the home etc
  • To act as a key worker or co worker for a young person to ensure that the young person's care plans are up to date and that all their care needs are being met.
  • To provide keyworking support to young people on a 1:1 basis to enable young people to address past and present difficulties
  • To provide support for young people in their education this may include supporting them in the classroom if necessary
  • Working as a Team

  • Working towards the aims and objectives of the home together as a team
  • Attending team/ staff meetings and making a positive contribution to them

  • Updating childcare plans for all young people and working as a team to provide consistency in completing records within the home
  • Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions in line with the National Minimum Standards
  • Being familiar with all policies and procedures and developing practice in line with these
  • Attending training and implementing the learning from training within team practice
    • Responsibility for the accurate maintenance of financial records appropriate to the duties of the post
  • To represent Young Horizons in a positive and professional manner, ensuring that the team and home has a culture of professional practice and good communication with all professionals, visitors and family members

Special Working Conditions in line with caring practice

The care of children and young people requires a dedicated staff team that provides care to young people 24/7. At no point can children be left alone in the home without staff to ensure their safety and welfare needs are met

This role requires doing varying shifts, which include early morning and late evening work, sleep-in's, weekends as part of a rota and Bank Holidays on a rota system.

Additional payment is made for Sleeping-in

working flexibly may be requested on occasions and you may be asked to change your rota at a given notice as per your contract. This may also include covering an additional sleep-in duty as an emergency measure.
