Assistant Production Manager

My client is a leading supplier throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, they are currently seeking an Assistant Production Manager to join their team based in Moira.

This is a Full-Time, permanent position.

Working hours: Monday to Friday 40hours (8.30am-5pm, start time negotiable)

With a salary of £35,000 to £40,000 per annum.

Job Role:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for helping oversee production activities, ensuring that products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This will include having a strong understanding of production processes and planning, be capable of leading teams, and able to drive continuous improvements in efficiency, safety, and product quality.

Essential Criteria:

  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role in food manufacturing or a related industry.
  • Experience with production scheduling, team management, and problem-solving in a high-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of food production processes, food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, BRC), and health and safety regulations.
  • Proficient in the use of production management software and tools, with strong analytical skills to track performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate and guide production teams.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Operations Manager in planning, organising, and managing daily production schedules to ensure that production targets are met on time and within budget.
  • Supervise production lines, monitor staff performance, and ensure compliance with safety, hygiene, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with the NPD (New Product Development) and Quality teams to implement new products and maintain quality throughout the production process.
  • Monitor production metrics, such as output, efficiency, waste, and downtime, identifying opportunities for improvement and reporting to the Operations Manager.
  • Lead, motivate, and support production staff, providing clear direction, training, and guidance to ensure a high-performing team.
  • Ensure that all staff follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), health and safety regulations, and food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, BRC).
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate production goals, operational updates, and address any challenges or concerns.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing health and safety regulations and conducting regular audits and risk assessments.
  • Oversee compliance with safety protocols, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper machine operation.
  • Address any safety concerns or incidents immediately, taking corrective action to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate closely with the Quality/Technical team to ensure that all products meet required quality standards, and that any non-compliance is addressed promptly.
  • Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ensure production areas meet sanitation and cleanliness standards.
  • Identify and resolve any quality or process issues during production, working with the QA team to implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in managing inventory levels of raw materials, packaging, and supplies.
