Assistant Technical Manager

My client is a leading supplier throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, they are currently seeking an Assistant Technical Manager to join their team based in Moira.

This is a Full-Time, permanent position.

Working hours: Monday to Friday 40hours (8.30am-5pm, start time negotiable)

With a salary of £35,000 to £40,000 per annum.

Job Role:

You will be responsible for supporting the Senior Technical Manager in ensuring food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance across all manufacturing operations. This role is critical in maintaining the highest technical and food safety standards, working closely with Production, NPD, and Quality teams to ensure product integrity and compliance with BRC, HACCP, and customer requirements.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience in a technical or quality assurance role within food manufacturing.
  • Level 3 in Food Safety or above.
  • Strong knowledge of BRC, HACCP, and food safety regulations.
  • Experience in managing audits, non-conformances, and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to analyse technical data, conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Experience with quality management systems (QMS) and traceability systems.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining and improving food safety systems, ensuring compliance with BRC, HACCP, and other standards.
  • Support the development and implementation of food safety and quality management systems.
  • Monitor and validate Critical Control Points (CCPs) in the manufacturing process, such as cooking temperatures, metal detection, pH levels, and packaging integrity.
  • Ensure all legal, customer, and regulatory requirements are met across all processes.
  • Monitor and manage HACCP plans, carrying out risk assessments and ensuring Critical Control Points are controlled.
  • Ensure compliance with allergen controls, traceability procedures, and microbiological testing.
  • Keep up to date with food legislation, industry best practices, and customer requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and internal audits to identify and mitigate potential food safety hazards.
  • Support internal and external audits, including BRC and any customer audits, ensuring successful compliance.
  • Oversee and improve quality control processes, ensuring product consistency and adherence to specifications.
  • Support quality control checks throughout the production process to ensure products meet specifications.
  • Investigate and resolve non-conformances, customer complaints, and product recalls, ensuring effective root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Work closely with the Production to improve quality standards and reduce waste.
  • Assist in the validation of new equipment, processes, and packaging materials to maintain food safety.
  • Conduct traceability checks on a regular basis across all product types.
  • Support by ensuring all labels is managed in accordance with the labelling legislation and in line with customer requirements.
  • Support by ensuring an effective management process is in place for pest control across all internal and external areas of the site.
  • Assist in enforcing the hygiene rules across the site, including handwashing, PPE, Change Process etc.
