Belmont Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Local Government Accountant to join Cheshire East Council on an initial 3-6 month temporary contract. This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
The Role:
Additional senior capacity in the Council's Strategic Finance and Accounting Team. The team looks after the budget setting process, in-year reporting, capital programme co-ordination, closure of accounts and treasury management. The candidate could be involved in a range of those areas.
Key Duties:
- Prepare and manage budgets, financial statements, and year-end accounts.
- Monitor and control public sector spending, ensuring value for money.
- Provide financial analysis and reports to senior management and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with local government financial regulations and accounting standards.
- Support the development of financial policies and procedures.
- Assist with external and internal audits.
- Provide guidance on financial planning, forecasting, and cost-saving strategies.
Requirements:
- Qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, ACA)
- Experience in public sector finance or local government accounting.
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and audit processes.
- Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
Location - Crewe/Hybrid working.
