Job Title: Mechanical Contracts Manager
Location: Croydon, Surrey
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:30, with occasional additional hours as required.
Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum (subject to experience)

Our client is a dynamic and growing Surrey-based MEP contractor offering turnkey solutions across a wide range of sectors, including Healthcare, Commercial Office Refurbishments & Fit-Outs, Museums & Theatres, Residential, and Hotels. Due to upcoming projects, they are seeking a Mechanical Contracts Manager to join the team and manage commercial mechanical projects ranging from £100k to £5 million. Role Overview:
The Mechanical Contracts Manager will take the lead in managing mechanical projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery, maintaining high-quality standards, and adhering to budget constraints. This role will require strong technical expertise in mechanical building services, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. You will be a key player in liaising with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure smooth project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management:
- Oversee mechanical projects from pre-construction to final handover, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
- Prepare and review contract documentation, specifications, and drawings to ensure full understanding and compliance.
- Manage the preparation of Health and Safety documentation, technical submissions, schedules, and works programmes.
- Attend client and professional team meetings, both pre- and post-contract award.
- Lead the negotiation and appointment of sub-contractors, ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality.
Team and Client Liaison:
- Work closely with the in-house BIM/CAD departments and collaborate with the client and contractor site management teams.
- Provide direction and oversight to project and site managers, ensuring seamless communication and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
- Regularly review progress and prepare monthly contract reports for senior management and clients.
- Manage and direct the commissioning of systems, including overseeing commissioning programmes and client handovers.
Contract Administration:
- Monitor and control project costs, manage variations and commercial submissions, and ensure financial accuracy.
- Administer contracts in accordance with established terms, ensuring compliance with relevant contract laws.
- Ensure health and safety management is adhered to and reported on effectively.
- Prepare and submit monthly contract applications and account reports for director review.
Health & Safety Management:
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements for both your team and sub-contractors.
- Oversee CDP (Construction Design and Planning) requirements and specialist site teams.
General Responsibilities:
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring the highest level of service and quality across all sites.
- Work independently and efficiently, handling tasks from the order conception through to final account and defects period.
Required Skills & Experience:
Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the mechanical services industry.
- Proven track record in successfully managing mechanical projects up to £5 million in value.
- Experience in working across a variety of sectors, including healthcare, commercial office refurbishments, museums, theatres, residential, and hotels.
Qualifications:
- Minimum HNC / HND qualification in Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
- A clean driving licence and current CSCS Card are essential.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of contract law, administration, and account management.
- Familiarity with computer-based estimation packages (e.g., MS Project, Asta Powerproject).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Experience in preparing technical schedules and contract health and safety documentation.
Other Requirements:
- Strong communication and leadership skills to manage and guide teams effectively.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
