Job Title: Employee Relations AdvisorLocation: CroydonContract Type: Temporary, on-goingPay Rate: £18.01/hrHours: Fulltime Mon-Fri, 37.5 hours a weekAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Employee Relations (ER) Advisor to join our dynamic Human Resources & Organisational Development team. This role will play a crucial part in supporting managers and employees across the Trust, ensuring compliance with employment policies and best practices.About the RoleAs an ER Advisor, you will be the first point of contact for HR-related queries, providing expert guidance on employee relations matters. Working closely with Senior ER Advisors and the HR Business Partnering team, you will deliver a high-quality, responsive HR service across the organisation.The successful candidate will take ownership of sickness absence management, ensuring cases are handled efficiently and compassionately from start to finish, including attendance at sickness review meetings and termination hearings where necessary. Additionally, you will provide advice on flexible working requests, professional registration and visa renewals, probation periods, and fixed-term contract management.Key Responsibilities
  • Provide first-line advice to managers on policies, employment law, and best practice HR processes.
  • Support the management of short and long-term sickness absence, including Occupational Health referrals, return-to-work plans, and ill-health retirement applications.
  • Lead on stage 3 short-term absence hearings and long-term sickness final reviews, offering expert guidance to managers.
  • Assist with cases relating to flexible working requests, fixed-term contracts, professional registrations, and visa renewals.
  • Advise on probationary periods, supporting managers with appropriate actions and decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate records on ESR case management systems and produce reports to identify trends.
  • Support managers and employees in resolving grievances, disciplinary matters, and capability concerns.
  • Assist in developing and updating HR policies, guidance documents, and intranet resources.
  • Deliver training sessions for managers on employee relations processes and policies.
  • Provide general HR support, including responding to queries, preparing hearing documentation, and assisting with Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous experience in a HR advisory or employee relations role, ideally within a large or complex organisation.
  • A strong understanding of UK employment law and best HR practices.
  • Experience managing sickness absence cases, flexible working requests, and probationary periods.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and provide pragmatic, solution-focused advice.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously.
  • Proficiency in HR systems and data analysis, with experience in ESR or similar case management tools being advantageous.
