Academics are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to support a year 5 child with ADHD, the child is not aggressive however may use bad language. The Mainstream Primary school is in the heart of Croydon.

The Role: Teaching Assistant - ADHD Support - Croydon Primary

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support a Year 5 student with ADHD (non-aggressive). The successful candidate will be responsible for providing tailored one-to-one and small group support, ensuring the student can access the curriculum effectively and remain engaged in classroom activities. You will also help to foster a positive learning environment and promote emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities: Teaching Assistant - ADHD Support - Croydon Primary

  • Support a Year 5 child with ADHD in accessing their learning, including providing individualised strategies to help with concentration, organization, and social interaction.
  • Assist with managing the student's behaviour, ensuring they are able to focus and participate fully in lessons.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to monitor progress and adapt support as required.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement, helping the student to build confidence and self-esteem.
  • Assist with classroom activities and group work, ensuring the student is fully included.
  • Help with the student's organization of tasks, time management, and independent learning where possible.
  • Liaise with parents, teachers, and external agencies to provide the best support for the student.

Essential Skills & Qualifications: Teaching Assistant - ADHD Support - Croydon Primary

Previous experience working with children with ADHD or additional learning needs is desirable but not essential.

  • A genuine interest in supporting children with special educational needs, particularly ADHD.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
