The Employee Relations (ER) Advisor will provide first line HR advice and support to employees and managers and will be the first point of contact for providing efficient, responsive and reliable advice for all general HR enquires.

The post holder will be required to identify, action, and follow up on queries of an internal and external nature-requiring expertise, knowledge and analysis of any problem and knowing when to escalate to the Senior ER Advisors.

The post holder will have complete autonomy for managing their own time and diary commitments and lead on the management of complex sickness related absence cases for the organisation.

Duties:

  • managing, arranging and attending sickness review meetings, advising and supporting line managers,for both short term and long term absence right through to holding termination meetings.
  • responsible for supporting and managing cases relating to fixed term contracts, professional registrations and flexible working requests from all staff groups across the Organisation.
  • Communicate complex information/processes including redeployment, ill health retirement, and procedure for stage 3 sickness hearing to managers and employees.
  • Interpret and advise managers on Organisation policies to ensure compliance,whilst offering general HR advice to all Organisation staff.
  • To take a leading HR role on Flexible Working applications and appeals, supporting managers to review the particular impacts any working application may have to both the individual and the service.
  • To take a leading role on any cases that are needed where an individual’s professional registration (ie pin number)has expired and not been renewed meaning the individual is unable to legally work in the role they are employed to complete
  • To produce own and support the process of collation of packs for formal sickness and Flexible working Hearings and distribute to the Panel,Management and staff accordingly in a timely manner when required.
  • To support with taking/minutes of formal Employee Relations Meetings and Hearings (including, Sickness, Disciplinary, Grievance, Capability etc.)
  • Update the ESR case management systems and trackers to ensure that ER cases are accessible and up to date for accurate reporting.
  • To provide general advice to managers and staff on Agenda for Change terms and conditions of service and on Organisation employment policies and procedures including pay, annual leave entitlement, family leave, notice periods, flexible working options, and special leave, and referring complex queries or seeking guidance to Senior ERAdvisor(s), HRBP(s)or other HR & OD colleagues where necessary.
  • To be confident running reports and analysing complex and highly sensitive data relating to individuals employment, spotting trends and patterns to identify potential interventions and improvements needed.This involves presenting that in formation to senior leaders organisation, including senior directorate leadership teams.

The ideal person will be:

  • Educated to GCSE Level (including Maths and English)
  • NVQ Level 5 or equivalent professional Exp
  • CIPD level 5 or working towards
  • Experienced in office administration including the production of confidential, official/legal documents or processes related to employment
  • Able to take and transcribe notes/minutes of formal meetings
  • Able to handle difficult or sensitive situations
  • Experienced in the use of anHR or Payroll system
  • Experienced in MSOffice applications to at least Intermediate level
  • Able to deal with routine and complex enquiries
  • Experiencedin supporting HR cases or managing queries in a highly complex, unionised organisation
  • Be used to checking complex documents and have good attention to detail
  • Motivated and enthusiastic teamplayer.
