Day-to-day of the Senior Mechanical Engineer role:- Manage the engineering team daily, overseeing workload and workshop activity.
- Engage in hands-on mechanical engineering tasks including component and system failure analysis.
- Oversee condition assessments, preparation for First Article Inspections (FAIs), warranty claim investigations, and problem-solving.
- Create method statements, component overhaul instructions, and test procedures.
- Review and sign off on reports, ensuring high standards of quality and accuracy.
- Support the Head of Engineering in maintaining and upholding engineering standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and workshop technicians, assisting in their professional development.
- Collaborate with purchasing and quality departments to approve new supplier selections and assessments.
- Enhance and manage engineering processes in safety-critical environments.
- Deputise for the Head of Engineering as needed.
- HNC/HND or equivalent in a mechanically biased engineering discipline.
- At least 15 years of professional engineering experience, including 5 years in a managerial role.
- Proficient in CAD software such as Siemens NX, Autodesk Inventor, and Team Centre.
- Strong understanding of mechanical driveline products and systems.
- Familiarity with BS 8888, ISO 9001:2015, and other relevant standards.
- Excellent communication skills, both technical and conversational.
- Commercial awareness with an understanding of the impact of engineering decisions.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work from engineering first principles.
