Day-to-day of the Senior Mechanical Engineer role:
  • Manage the engineering team daily, overseeing workload and workshop activity.
  • Engage in hands-on mechanical engineering tasks including component and system failure analysis.
  • Oversee condition assessments, preparation for First Article Inspections (FAIs), warranty claim investigations, and problem-solving.
  • Create method statements, component overhaul instructions, and test procedures.
  • Review and sign off on reports, ensuring high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Support the Head of Engineering in maintaining and upholding engineering standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and workshop technicians, assisting in their professional development.
  • Collaborate with purchasing and quality departments to approve new supplier selections and assessments.
  • Enhance and manage engineering processes in safety-critical environments.
  • Deputise for the Head of Engineering as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications of the Senior Mechanical Engineer:
  • HNC/HND or equivalent in a mechanically biased engineering discipline.
  • At least 15 years of professional engineering experience, including 5 years in a managerial role.
  • Proficient in CAD software such as Siemens NX, Autodesk Inventor, and Team Centre.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical driveline products and systems.
  • Familiarity with BS 8888, ISO 9001:2015, and other relevant standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and conversational.
  • Commercial awareness with an understanding of the impact of engineering decisions.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work from engineering first principles.
