Wanted: Good Female/Male Role Models (mums/big sisters/aunts/dads/big brothers/uncles) for residential care work with teenagers who have experienced severe personal trauma.

The safety of the young people at Willows is the primary concern, and their welfare isparamount. At Willows we are committed to protecting young people from all forms of abuse, including physical, emotional and sexual harm. To be effective it will require all staff members to acknowledge their individual responsibility for safeguarding children and young people. Willows will ensure that all staff will have access to appropriate training, supervision and support.

You will need to have a big heart and be emotionally strong and resilient in order to work effectively. No experience? No problem...as we provide full training via our in-house nationally accredited training course. We have five houses with 2/3 girls living in each house, and with a rotating team of six carers per house (working in pairs). We also have our own school.

This is a tough job, but for the right person it will be the best and most rewarding job you have ever done...literally changing the lives of girls who have experienced traumatic starts to their lives.

  • 24.5 hour shifts working from 10am until 10.30am the following day (including weekends);
  • Full time 10 shifts per month;
  • Permanent, Full Time posts available;
  • Driver essential (must be over 21, for car insurance purposes) and must have been driving for more than one year (on a manual car) - work vehicle provided once at work;
  • Joining as part of the support team working across all the houses;
  • Computer literate;
  • Good communication skills.
  • Duties and Responsibilities
  • To maintain the development of positive childcare practice in keeping with the aims and objectives of Willows.
  • To provide a safe, warm and supportive environment for young people.
  • To ensure the rights and needs of the young people are met as fully as possible.
  • To carry out all duties in line with the Willows Policies and Procedures.
  • To promote good relationships between Willows and other professional and supporting agencies.
  • To carry out duties in line with the Willows Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • To comply with company rules, Policies and Procedures and practices and to respond to
  • emergencies which may arise.
  • To encourage and support, whenever appropriate, contact between young people and their
  • families and significant others.
  • To promote and encourage the education of young people.
  • To accompany the young people on outdoor activities and holidays when required.
  • To encourage a responsible attitude by the young people towards the fabric, furnishings,
  • equipment and all other property within the establishment.
  • To support young people in all domestic, animal and environmental activities.
  • To provide and maintain high levels of cleanliness.
  • To work within Health and Safety guidelines.
  • To carry out household duties, shopping, cleaning, cooking and generally ensuring that
  • the household and outdoor areas are maintained in a safe manner.
  • The position involves some manual handling duties, for example carrying shopping,
  • loading and unloading the washing machine, carrying animal feed.
  • To maintain a regular, high quality system of recording in connection with each young
  • person, and to assist in the provision of reports when required.
  • To accept responsibility for monies as may be required in carrying out necessary duties.
  • To undertake administrative duties as required (for example - daily information, accident
  • book, incident book).
  • To report all matters of concern to the Manager.
  • To deal with telephone enquiries in a professional manner.
  • To receive and take part in regular supervision sessions with your Manager, and to
  • participate in performance appraisals.
  • To maintain case file records.
  • To be aware of fire prevention regulations and be practiced in fire drills.
  • To be a member a team of residential childcare workers and to attend all team and staff
  • meetings as required.
  • To participate in general activities of the establishment, and to use any personal skills you
  • may have to maximise opportunities for each young person.
  • To provide a positive working role model for other colleagues and the young people.
  • To demonstrate both sensitivity and appropriate assertiveness whilst working in a
  • pressurised environment.
  • To carry out duties of the post in a mature and responsible manner, seeking and receiving
  • support as necessary.
  • To work within any of Willows houses as may be required.
  • To physically intervene if a young persons behaviour is dangerous to others or themselves, in accordance with procedural guidance.
  • To undertake driving duties (for example trips to school, activities, home visits).
  • To undertake sleep in duties as required.
  • Any other duties as may be required and directed by the Managers.
  • To undertake training as required.
  • This role involves contact with children in regulated activity, you will be always responsible for the safeguarding of the children and risk assessments must be completed and followed.
