Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Maintenance Team Leader to oversee and coordinate the maintenance activities within our clients' recycling facility in Dagenham. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of maintenance engineers and ensuring the efficient operation of machinery and equipment. This is a hands-on role requiring strong leadership, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and support a team of maintenance engineers, ensuring high performance and development.
  • Oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults in plant equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Work closely with the production team to minimise downtime and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, and repairs.
  • Assist in procurement and inventory management of spare parts and maintenance supplies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability and efficiency.
  • Train and mentor team members, ensuring skill development and knowledge sharing.
  • Liaise with external contractors and service providers when necessary.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Team Leader, Supervisor, or Senior Engineer within the recycling, waste management, manufacturing, or similar industrial sector.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance, including fault-finding and repair.
  • Experience with conveyors, shredders, balers, compactors, and other recycling machinery is desirable.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive and hands-on approach.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Good organisational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical) is preferred.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification (desirable but not essential).
