This specialist Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) school in Barking and Dagenham is dedicated to providing a nurturing and structured environment where students can develop their emotional resilience and achieve their full potential. The school caters to children and young people with complex needs, often including trauma, anxiety, and behavioural challenges.
The RoleAs a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage positively with their learning and develop essential coping strategies. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams to implement tailored behaviour plans and interventions.
Key Responsibilities:-
Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEMH needs.

Implement behaviour support strategies to help students manage their emotions and behaviours effectively.

Support students in lessons to ensure they remain engaged and can access learning.

Build positive relationships with students to encourage self-confidence and resilience.

De-escalate challenging behaviours using trauma-informed and restorative approaches.

Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to implement Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs).

Encourage social and emotional development through structured activities and interventions.

Maintain accurate records of student progress, incidents, and interventions.

Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment in line with safeguarding policies.

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, or behavioural challenges.

Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and positive behaviour management strategies.

A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting challenging behaviours.

Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students.

Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Relevant experience in a school, PRU, residential, or youth work setting is desirable.

Team Teach or de-escalation training (desirable but not essential, training can be provided).
