Part-time chef 16 hours per week required for community café which is open Friday's and Saturday's for lunch. Producing fresh soups, cakes, quiches and pies from scratch.

Working in a friendly environment producing top quality products with the help of our members. We are looking for a confident chef who can lead a small team of trainee cooks and front of house volunteers in a community environment.

This is a fun and highly rewarding position working with our members and volunteers, some of whom are young people keen to start a career in the hospitality industry. Therefore you will be required to supervise and train people 14 years and up.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the management of the kitchen and café.
  • Producing lunch items and cakes from scratch.
  • Ensuring volunteers are trained to keep all tables clean and the café tidy and welcoming.
  • Providing top quality food and drinks with maximum profitability and create a changing seasonal menu with costings in partnership with the business manager.
  • Stock rotation, labelling and dating of all food and drink products. Completing all health and hygiene records, following all risk assessments and health and safety procedures.
  • Mentoring our members who are keen to learn on the job. Supervising them in the production of and service of the food.
  • A PVG check will be carried out for successful candidates of this position.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience in working in a professional kitchen environment.
  • A flare for creative cooking with culinary skills.
  • Coaching skills to train and mentor members who volunteer in the café.
  • Elementary food hygiene certificate.
  • Product display creation skills and cleanliness to maintain a presentable café image.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Barista skills a bonus although training can be given.
  • Customer service skills
