Summary of the Role

Responsible to: Principal

We are currently seeking to appoint a part-time English Teacher and a part-time Maths Teacher to join our English and Maths Team. The successful English teacher Candidate will have proven experience and results teaching both GCSE and Functional Skills English Qualifications. And a successful Maths teacher Candidate will have proven experience and results teaching both GCSE and Functional Skills Maths Qualifications. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference with very small cohorts, to nurture and support Learners to reach their full potential in an inclusive and creative environment, enabling Learners to achieve their academic goals and develop their language skills.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment Responsibilities:

  • To support the Principal and Programme Managers with the design, approval and review of the Curriculum/Scheme of Work, as required.
  • To assist the Principal and Director of Quality & Training with required documentation and/or Practical activities necessary to achieve successful Awarding Organisation (EQA) Visits and External Inspections, such as ESFA and Ofsted.
  • To develop and deliver Teaching, Learning and Assessments that challenge, engage and progress Learners and their understanding of the subject, ensuring the best opportunity at achieving a Pass grade at GCSE English and Maths or Functional Skills and on early attempts.
  • To develop and implement innovative Teaching and Assessment Strategies to meet the diverse needs of the Learners.
  • To actively monitor and track the Progress and Attendance of all Learners.
  • To ensure programmes are tailored to meet the individual needs of Learners.
  • To ensure lessons actively promote Equality, Diversity, British Values and Prevent to create an inclusive environment.
  • To contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the English or Maths Curriculum.
  • To engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to stay current with education trends and best practices.
  • To participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

General RTA Responsibilities:

  • To attend Internal and External CPD Training Sessions, as required.
  • To commit to the RTA Safeguarding and Child Protection Policies and promote a safe environment for children and young people learning within the Academy. This includes undertaking a Criminal Records Bureau check for this post.
  • To support the RTA Management in all Health and Safety matters and take reasonable care for the Health and Safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.
  • Promote Equality of Opportunity and Diversity in all aspects of the job and to challenge inequality and discrimination.

To be successful in this role you will need to be:

  • Self-motivated and able to work both collaboratively and independently as part of a Team.
  • Proven experience and results of teaching GCSE and Functional Skills English or Maths.
  • Excellent Classroom Management Skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate Learners.
  • A UK Teaching Qualification, such as DET, DTTLS or PGCE.
  • A desirable UK Assessors Qualification, such as A1 or equivalent.
  • A desirable UK Internal Quality Assurance Qualification, such as V1 or equivalent.
  • Outstanding subject knowledge combined with strong Communication Skills.
  • Good IT skills, familiar with Word and Excel.
