This role involves overseeing the kitchen operations, ensuring efficient meal preparation and service, and maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene.

Location: Derby, Derbyshire

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent, Term Time Only

Working Hours: 7:30am - 4:00pm (40 working weeks per year)

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Plan and prepare nutritious, balanced menus within budget, considering dietary requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Business Manager on catering strategies and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Manage kitchen operations including documentation, accounting, and administrative procedures.
  • Develop and manage staff rotas, induct and train new kitchen staff.
  • Maintain accurate food supply records and manage stock rotation.
  • Oversee food deliveries, ensuring accuracy and proper storage.
  • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment and plan periodic deep cleans.
  • Organize and prepare for special functions, sometimes outside normal working hours.
  • Report any equipment defects or safety concerns.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience managing a catering environment, particularly with complex dietary needs.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to a kitchen environment.
  • Excellent literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.
  • Experience in equipment maintenance and safety checks.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certification (Level 3 desirable).
  • Ability to work flexibly and prioritize tasks effectively.
