Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Junior Oracle Engineer to join our team in the East Midlands. This role is ideal for an SC Cleared UK National who is eager to develop their expertise within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will primarily focus on Oracle Database Administration (DBA) tasks across versions 11g to 18c, with additional responsibilities across MariaDB, SQL Server, and Cassandra technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Checks: Perform routine monitoring and health checks of Oracle databases, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
  • Backup & Recovery: Manage ad-hoc backup and recovery operations using RMAN, EXPDP/IMPDP, and other relevant tools.
  • BAU Support: Provide ongoing Business-As-Usual (BAU) support for ecosystem partners and project teams, ensuring seamless database operations.
  • ITIL Processes: Engage in Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes in line with ITIL best practices.
  • Performance Tuning: Conduct performance tuning activities, including analysis using AWR reports, ADDM, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Ad-hoc Requests: Address and resolve ad-hoc database-related requests from clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Technology Implementation: Support the implementation and management of Oracle RAC environments (11g, 12c, 19c), including DataGuard setups.
  • Scripting: Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash and PowerShell on both Linux and Windows platforms.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Oracle DBA: 5 years of experience in a production environment, working with Oracle versions 11g, 12c, and 19c.
  • RAC & DataGuard: Hands-on experience with Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) and DataGuard configurations.
  • Backup & Recovery: Proficiency with RMAN and other backup/recovery methodologies.
  • Operating Systems: Strong working knowledge of Linux and Windows environments.
  • Scripting: Experience with scripting languages such as Bash and PowerShell for automation and task management.
  • ITIL: Familiarity with ITIL processes, particularly in Incident, Problem, and Change Management.

Desirable Skills

  • Database Systems: Experience with MariaDB, SQL Server, and Cassandra databases.
  • Performance Tuning: Deep understanding of database performance tuning principles and tools.

Location

This role is based in the East Midlands, with a requirement to work on client sites in Derby, Nottingham, or Leicester for 5 days a week. Candidates must be located locally to meet this requirement.

Security Clearance

This position requires SC Clearance. Candidates must be UK nationals with no dual nationality due to security clearance requirements.
