The RoleAs the Secondary School Catering Supervisor, you'll work alongside the Catering Manager, overseeing the kitchen team and helping to ensure everything runs smoothly, from preparing nutritious meals to planning menus that meet varied dietary needs. You'll be the person who ensures both pupils and staff enjoy fresh, tasty, and healthy meals every day.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision: Oversee daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and staff coordination.
  2. Cooking: Prepare and cook meals using fresh ingredients, aiming for high nutritional value and variety.
  3. Menu Planning: Assist the Catering Manager in designing menus that meet the needs of students and staff, ensuring dietary requirements are always catered for.
  4. Standards: Ensure that food hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at the highest levels, meeting both school and statutory standards.
  5. Stock Management: Assist with ordering supplies, stock control, and conducting regular stock takes.
  6. Health & Safety: Adhere to and enforce health and safety regulations, including kitchen safety and food hygiene standards.
  7. Events Support: Support catering requirements for school events, including evening or after-school events like parent-teacher evenings.
  8. Team Leadership: Encourage staff development, support new staff induction, and promote a positive working atmosphere in the kitchen.

Requirements:

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification (or willingness to achieve this within a set timeframe).
  • Strong knowledge of food legislation, health and safety, and food hygiene practices.
  • Previous experience in large-scale catering (preferably in a school setting).
  • Ability to plan and prepare varied and nutritious meals within budget constraints.

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation and Cooking or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working in a school kitchen or large premises.
