Alexander Kaye Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a highly successful and dynamic award winning fast track Construction business in their search for an exceptional Managing Director.

About the Company

Our client is an innovative and forward-thinking leading construction business with a turnover of around 拢40m and a work force of nearly 180 - which operates in the refurbishment business for various industries - Leisure, Hospitality and Public Sector. Their reputation is built on excellence, innovation, and a customer-centric approach. This is a Hands-On Managing Director role, in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. You will combine strong commercial and financial acumen with pragmatic leadership to instil a dynamic, results-oriented, and "can-do" mindset across the operation.

Their work ranges from reactive and planned maintenance with Projects that can range from 5-day fast turnarounds in Sheffield to an 24-week high profile fit out in central London. They undertake works nationwide from Glasgow to St Austell and can also be seen undertaking overseas projects from the Channel Islands for Liberation Brewery and all around the world for the military.

The work force ranges from site engineers/teams to professional teams - designers, quantity surveyors, and Project managers.

The new Managing Director will have overall management of the Group. Working on a day to day basis and be responsible for the delivery of projects and margins within the Group reporting into the Shareholders.

They will help to develop a team that can grow and develop the business over the short and medium term. You will be managing and bringing the teams/ divisions together, who can work well collaboratively within and across all the Business鈥檚 .

The Tasks and Responsibilities

路Present on monthly basis to the Shareholders

路Day to day management of the Core Business.

路Overall responsibility for the various businesses within the group with a combined turnover of 38 million

路Monitoring the Finance team responsible for making sure Finance figures are correct and issued on weekly basis

路Oversee HR Division and the Health and Safety Team

路Manage company Overheads

路Oversee Company investment / Capex projects /opportunities

路Monitor, measure, and report key profit opportunities and concerns

路Work with Ops Director to implement key working processes and KPI鈥檚 throughout the business.

The required skills and attributes

路Demonstrate effective Leadership skills

路Demonstrate working at Board level

路High level of Finance background / training

路Ability to work on multiple divisions at any one time.

路Excellent relationship skills - building and interpersonal skills are key

  • Proven experience as a Managing Director, General Manager, or Operations Director or Financial Director used to work at Board level
  • Strong commercial and financial management skills, with experience leading P&L ownership and delivering profitable growth.
  • A results-driven, "hands-on" leadership approach that engages and empowers teams at all levels.
  • Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work on multiple divisions at any one time.
  • Owning the P&L to drive profitability, monitor financial performance, and deliver on key growth objectives.
  • Driving process excellence, streamlining operations, and embedding a culture of continuous improvement, agility, and customer responsiveness.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with a track record of success in construction/building or building refurbishment environments would be ideal. Strategic mindset and hands-on leadership style, thriving in fast-paced, project-led businesses.

This role will be based in the office and does not offer WFH on a fixed or regular basis.
