About the Role: The Educational Psychologist will apply psychology to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND and help Dorset Council fulfil its statutory duties. The role involves partnering with parents, carers, and children, using person-centred planning, and collaborating with schools, colleagues, and agencies to enhance skills and early intervention.

Day-to-Day Duties:

  • Assist in maintaining and developing psychological services, especially for Education, Health, and Care Needs Assessments.
  • Ensure positive outcomes for children, young people, and families.
  • Enhance the skills and capacity of settings and colleagues.
  • Ensure coordinated service delivery.
  • Participate in development meetings and align practices with service policies.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings by Family Partnership Zones and other Local Authority Directorates.
  • Contribute to the in-service education of teachers.
  • Engage in further training and professional development.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Post-graduate professional qualification appropriate for practice in the UK as an Educational Psychologist (or will have by start date).

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of children's rights and the SEND Code of Practice 0-25.
  • Various assessment approaches and methods for developing social, emotional, and resiliency skills in children and young people.
  • Psychological theories, evidence-based interventions for SEND, and national developments.
  • Skills in empowering professionals and families, proactive psychology application, solutionfocused problem-solving, and effective inclusion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, time management, commitment to CPD, professional integrity, effective communication, and facilitation of joint working with Health and Social Care colleagues.
