We are currently working on the below opportunity for an Interim Major Projects Officer working for an East Midlands Local Authority.

Interim Major Projects Officer

Client: Ashfield District Council

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 6 Months initially

Rate: Negotiable

Hybrid Working Arrangement- but first week onsite

Duties:

  • Lead on the planning, development, and delivery of major capital projects, ensuring they align with council objectives and statutory requirements.
  • Oversee procurement processes, contract negotiations, and project management frameworks, ensuring compliance with local government regulations.
  • Manage budgets, funding applications, and financial reporting, ensuring projects are delivered within agreed timescales and cost constraints.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, external consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to facilitate project delivery.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure project success.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for senior management, elected members, and external funding bodies.
  • Ensure projects meet sustainability, accessibility, and health & safety standards.
  • Engage with residents, businesses, and community groups to communicate project goals and progress effectively.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in managing large-scale infrastructure, regeneration, or capital projects within a public sector or local government environment.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, APM) and procurement frameworks.
  • Understanding of relevant planning, construction, and environmental legislation.
  • Budget management and financial reporting experience, including securing and managing external funding sources.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise workloads, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Relevant qualification in project management, construction, engineering, or a related field.
