Interim Senior Construction Project Manager (Capital Projects)

Location: Somerset (Hybrid Working)

Contract: Interim/Ongoing (Inside IR35)

Start Date: ASAP

Our client, a local authority in Somerset, is seeking an Interim Senior Construction Project Manager to lead a range of capital projects aimed at improving and expanding facilities for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEND).

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of new, extended, or redeveloped SEND facilities, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and timely project completion.
  • Manage a variety of projects, from repairs and maintenance to redevelopments and new build construction.
  • Work closely with stakeholders, including council departments, contractors, and education providers, to ensure projects meet the needs of service users.
  • Develop and implement project plans, budgets, and risk management strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with building regulations, health and safety standards, and procurement policies.
  • Lead on contractor and consultant management, ensuring delivery against agreed specifications and performance measures.
  • Report on project progress, risks, and financial controls to senior leadership and elected members.

About You

  • Proven experience in construction project management, ideally within a local authority or public sector setting.
  • Strong background in delivering capital programmes and property projects, particularly in education or SEND environments.
  • Experience managing projects across repairs, refurbishments, and new builds.
  • Knowledge of procurement, contract management, and budget oversight.
  • Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including senior council officers, schools, and external contractors.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, planning laws, and construction best practices.
  • A relevant qualification in construction, project management, or a related field
