Interim Governance Lawyer – 18 months + - Part Time – Up to £60 per hour Umbrella – Midlands based Local Authority

Position: Interim Governance Lawyer

Organisation: Midlands-Based Local Authority

Duration: 18 months +

Working Pattern: Part time, 15 – 20 hours a week. Predominantly remote working with the exception of attending the office for meetings when required

Rate: Up to £60 per hour Umbrella (dependant on experience)

The successful candidate is required to understand Local Government Legal Framework including relevant policies and practice issues. You will need to have a strong drive to deliver high quality standards of service to the Council. The ideal candidate will have the ability to take on a number of streams of work relating to constitution changes, delegations, public consultation, equality impact assessment.

This role offers a great opportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders including elected members, officers, and commissioners.

Qualifications required:

- Qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive or a member of the Bar who has completed pupillage/registered FILEX

- Current Practising Certificate

Your role will involve:

Support and assist the City Solicitor and Assistant DirectorsStep in for the Principal Lawyer when required and assist in supervision of colleagues when requiredAdvising client department in Governance, other corporate or constitutional and administrative matters to ensure compliance with statutory duties, to protect the best interests of the CouncilMaintain high service standards by supporting Legal Services Management Team to meet practise management requirements and ensure compliance with policies and proceduresAttending courts, tribunals, public inquiries and undertaking advocacy when requiredWork with a wide range of stakeholders including elected members, officers, and commissionersHelp to develop and deliver training courses for colleague and to increase client awareness of relevant legal issuesIf you’re interested in this Governance Lawyer position, you can apply for this role online or contact Sam Cox or Connie Ross directly via phone or email for further information on:
