Legal and Information Governance Coordinator - South West - Permanent - Full Time - Hybrid Working Venn Group's specialist Legal team is pleased to be assisting a Public Sector Organisation in the South West which is looking to appoint a Legal and Information Governance Coordinator to join its team. This is an exciting opportunity for a confident and autonomous individual who is looking to step up and take ownership of a busy workload within a close-knit Legal team.This is a permanent, full time position. Weekly office attendance is required for this role, with on-site parking available.The successful candidate will be educated to degree level and/or possess demonstrable experience in a similar role witin the public sector.Duties and responsibilities may include the following:

  • Monitor and manage data requests made under the DPA and information requests under the FOIA/EIR, liaising as required with colleagues throughout the Organisation and drafting responses within statutory deadlines
  • Ensure that appropriate processes, policies, procedures and communications protocols are developed in order to respond promptly to requests for information and identify/manage any risk to the Organisation through the provision of information
  • Deal with actual or alleged breaches of data protection policy and implement remedial action where required
  • Develop and maintain the Organisation’s Records Management and Retention Policies and its Data Protection/Freedom of Information website
  • Act as the Organisation’s main point of contact for external and internal enquiries regarding Freedom of Information, manage the shared Data Protection and Freedom of Information inboxes and provide guidance as required.
  • Respond to requests from colleagues in IT and attend Compliance and Procurement Team meetings, to identify when Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) are required and prepare first drafts of DPIAs
  • Research and monitor policy statements, information sources and external groups, to ensure the Organisation is following best practice regarding records management, and DPA/FOIA/EIR
  • Develop a highly specialised, thorough, and complex knowledge of the legislation, through extensive research involving review of formal documentation, consultation with external bodies advisory groups and professional networks (e.g. ICO, JISC)
  • Assist leading on and providing appropriate training and development initiatives for Organisation staff related to developments for information compliance
  • Lead and continue the development and implementation of the Organisation-wide Records Management and Records Retention policy to ensure the delivery of an effective, efficient and high-quality service to users that is aligned with the relevant legislation
  • Provide support to the Information Compliance Manager and the legal Team across their areas of responsibility, including providing project support, undertaking research on legal/compliance issues and assisting the legal team with their tasks (i.e. paralegal duties)
