Job purpose:
Working from London Stansted, you'll play a critical role leading and delivering pre-application engagement activity, helping the airport communicate its Sustainable Development Plan as it prepares the relevant planning permissions for its long-term sustainable growth.
The proposals outlined in our Sustainable Development Plan are critical to Stansted’s growth, and it is vital that we deliver these having explained them clearly to our local communities and stakeholders and secured broad support for the airport’s growth.
You’ll work with the small existing corporate affairs team and an appointed agency to deliver a substantive engagement programme and capitalise on existing opportunities to the benefit of this project.
This is a fixed-term role (6-9 months) to cover the period during which we expect to be seeking the relevant planning permissions, with the potential to extend further if required by the project.
Main responsibilities:
• Deliver high quality project engagement with our external stakeholders and local communities through workshops, community consultation events and research panels and focus groups, handling logistics and content as required
• Work collaboratively with media, social media, stakeholder and community engagement colleagues to plan and capitalise on business as usual activity to further support our communications goals for this project
• Establish and nurture a local community of stakeholders and partners with whom the airport can engage going forward to build awareness of and support for the project.
• Support the wider team in working with the appointed agency, helping track deliverables against the committed brief, manage budget and additional deliverables/overspend in agreement with the Head of Corporate Affairs
Knowledge and Experience:
• First class communications skills, with a strong instinct for relationship building, but also a good understanding of how to use all channels to maximise community impact and build support
• Demonstrative experience building internal and external relationships of quality at speed to the benefit of the project and the organisation longer term
• Some understanding of planning, infrastructure development or aviation and some related work experience preferable
• A natural collaborator, able to work with colleagues closely to deliver outcomes to the benefit of the team, the project and the organisation at pace, within a focus on cost and impact
• Experience working within or alongside a matrixed team, and an understanding of how working as a contractor in this environment can best support MAG/London Stansted
• Work either at an agency or closely with one on a similar multi-facetted project with a number of internal and external stakeholders involved
