General Foreman - Durham

Responsible for the management and supervision of all construction activities on-site, including subcontractor trades, while reporting to the Site Agent/Project Manager. This role ensures the successful delivery of projects to high standards of health and safety, while maintaining programme efficiency, budget adherence, and delivering a quality, defect-free end product. The company is currently engaged in a diverse range of schemes, including high street public realm refurbishments, highways projects, bus station developments, large 278 schemes, port refurbishments, and bridge deck refurbishments. Key Responsibilities
- Independently conducts inductions and toolbox talks (TBTs).
- Leads by example in promoting safe working practices and compliance with HSE legislation and quality standards.
- Ensures all works are carried out in line with approved method statements and risk assessments (RAMS), including delivering RAMS briefings.
- Completes daily and weekly permits such as PUWER, LOLER, and Permit to Dig, and delivers associated briefings.
- Maintains a strong understanding of company HSE procedures and ensures all site documentation is up to standard.
- Ensures site personnel meet task-specific training requirements, maintaining an up-to-date training register.
- Can fulfil the role of Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS).
- Extensive knowledge of civil construction activities, including drainage, deep excavation, road construction, structures, and temporary works.
- Identifies and promotes best practices, efficiencies, and innovations in project delivery.
- Troubleshoots and problem-solves daily site challenges, offering innovative solutions.
- Assists the Project Planner with the Project Programme and provides as-built monthly updates.
- Supports efficiency and innovation planning, contributing to collaborative planning strategies.
- Schedules and allocates daily activities for gangs and site operatives, ensuring all required documentation is completed.
- Maintains a daily diary tracking work progress and production.
- Plans resource requirements in advance and communicates effectively with line management.
- Manages the hire and off-hire of equipment, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
- Proactively ensures project completion on time, within budget, and to specification by challenging
- Has a basic understanding of subcontractor orders and responsibilities, effectively communicating requirements to the wider team.
- Identifies risks and opportunities, reporting them in monthly management updates.
- Maintains comprehensive site records, ensuring accurate documentation of daily activities.
- Ensures consistent use of document management systems (VP or equivalent) for key reports.
- Coordinates material deliveries and collections, ensuring all necessary quality checks are conducted.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with clients, suppliers, third parties, and internal teams, working alongside the Construction Liaison Officer.
- Demonstrates full compliance with sector QA procedures and supports internal auditing.
- Ensures that the project team and subcontractor supply chain deliver to the highest quality standards, leading by example.

Experience and Qualifications
- Extensive experience in delivering large civil engineering schemes, including highways, drainage, and structures.
- Strong IT skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant software.
- CSCS Gold Card (minimum).
- SMSTS qualification.
- Confined space training and Street Works Qualification (preferred).
- First Aid at Work certificate (preferred).
- Holds a UK driving licence (clean or low points).
