Role Overview

As a Design Co-ordinator, you will be key in ensuring the smooth delivery of our civil engineering projects. You will be working within our civil engineering division, which spans transportation, water, marine, and energy sectors. You will manage the entire design process from contract award through to completion, making sure designs are delivered on time, reviewed by the team, approved by the client, and any queries or challenges are addressed during the construction phase. You'll also assist with handovers at project completion. This role requires weekly travel, with three days spent on-site and the remainder working from one of our offices or remotely.

Design Co-ordinator Responsibilities

  • Manage the design process from contract award to project completion
  • Provide clear direction to designers and monitor progress to ensure timely delivery
  • Ensure designs are approved ahead of the construction schedule and comply with buildability and financial viability requirements
  • Review all design information for compliance, including temporary works
  • Manage risk, opportunities, and value engineering throughout the design phase
  • Solve technical and design issues, sharing solutions with the wider team
  • Minimise contractor risk related to defects, hazards, and non-compliance
  • Advise on workflows and ensure BIM implementation as required by the project
  • Support the client in their duties under CDM regulations

Design Co-ordinator Requirements:

  • Proven experience in design co-ordination within the civil engineering industry
  • Strong understanding of modern construction techniques, equipment, and plant
  • Comprehensive knowledge of civil engineering projects
  • Familiarity with common contracts such as NEC and JCT
  • Proficient in MS Office, Asta Powerproject, and AutoCAD
  • Experience with document management systems
  • Knowledge of MEICA integration into civil design and BIM implementation
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field
  • Full UK driving licence
