The opportunityWorking for a large and complex organisation in County Durham this is a newly created position for a Head of Payroll and People Services. The role will be responsible for managing a team of Payroll and HR colleagues and to establish and embed a high performing compliance focussed service.The roleThe Head of Payroll and People Services will be involved in the following typical duties:
  • Ensure all HMRC, RTI and other Statutory reporting deadlines are met.
  • Ensure all new legislation and government requirements are met.
  • Managing regular reporting to HMRC and ensuring all Tax Year-End procedures are run including P60, P11D processing.
  • Overseeing the implementation of required changes to the HR and payroll system.
  • Ensuring compliance and updating of SOPs for all payrolls and cross-trained staff on full payroll cycle from start to finish.
  • Leading the team responsible for all transactional functions of HR such as contract changes.
  • Use your expertise to help develop strategic plans and business plans that cover a wide range of operational activities.
The person
  • CIPP Payroll Management Diploma (or equivalent experience within a large complex organisation).
  • Specialist payroll knowledge and expertise and ability to offer advice to a range of customers.
  • Stakeholder engagement expertise with sound ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Staff management experience.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Technology proficient with a strong digital competence.
  • HR related professional qualifications would be desirable as would experience working on a cloud based HR and payroll system
  • HR related professional qualifications.
  • Experience of working in payroll in a large and complex organisation, ideally with multiple types of contract.
  • Experience of HR admin processes like contract onboarding would also be advantageous
