We're seeking a dedicated AAT Accounts Assistant to join our finance team and support the smooth operation of our financial processes. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with an AAT qualification or working towards one, looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional finance environment. The role involves a variety of accounting responsibilities, making it ideal for someone detail-oriented and eager to develop their skills further.

Role Overview

As an AAT Accounts Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting with day-to-day financial operations, including managing transactions, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting month-end processes. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial systems, working closely with the finance team to support business operations.

This is a fully on-site role, ideal for a proactive, organised, and detail-focused individual who is passionate about pursuing a career in finance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Bank Reconciliation & Posting: Accurately post bank statements and reconcile transactions in our accounting system, ensuring timely and precise record-keeping.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process supplier invoices, handle payments, and assist in chasing overdue customer accounts.
  • VAT Returns: Support in the preparation of VAT returns, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Customer Account Management: Maintain accurate customer accounts, process invoices, and credit notes as required, ensuring prompt and correct billing.
  • Credit Control Assistance: Help monitor outstanding payments, send reminders, and support the finance team in managing aged debts.
  • Ledger Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the general ledger by posting transactions and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Financial Reporting: Support the preparation of financial reports and statements for review by senior management.
  • Month-End Support: Ensure all transactions are posted by month-end deadlines and assist with account reconciliations.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with general administrative tasks, such as filing, responding to finance-related queries, and maintaining financial documentation.
What We're Looking For:
  • AAT Qualification: Ideally AAT Level 2 or above, or working towards your AAT qualification.
  • Accounting Experience: Some experience in a finance or accounting role is preferred but not essential for the right candidate with a willingness to learn.
  • Proficiency in Accounting Software: Familiarity with accounting systems like SAP or QuickBooks is a plus.
  • Microsoft Office Skills: Strong skills in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to financial record-keeping and deadline management.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication for collaborating with colleagues and responding to customer queries.
  • Organisational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines effectively.
