Lead Test Development Engineer - Near Edinburgh (Hybrid)
  • Hybrid - 3 days in office near Edinburgh very comutable from Lothians, Fife, and surrounding, 2 days working from home
  • Split - 80% Leadership, 20% hands-on

Lorien's long-standing, successful and expanding client, with offices very commutable from Central Edinburgh, West Lothian, Fife and the surrounding (hybrid 3 in, 2 remote), is looking to recruit a Lead TDE to join their multidisciplinary tech function.

You'll be leading a newly-built Test Development squad; putting your skills to good use as you contribute towards the success of a firm who've improved the lives of millions around the globe already. It's a great time to join, too, as they're in the middle of a wider recruitment drive and significant internal investment in their products and staff.

The successful individual will take the reins predominantly across the leadership of the team (80% of your workload), as well as conceptualising and realising tests for key hardware and software (20%), all the while enjoying working for an organisation giving something back to the world in a very positive way.

In return, you'll join a supportive organisation well versed in keeping their staff happy, a generous bonus scheme, flexible hybrid working, plenty of opportunities to upskill and progress professionally, annual salary reviews, and a range of other benefits designed with employee happiness in mind.

In this role you can expect to:

  • Lead a newly established TDE team from both technical and personal perspectives, including line management, overseeing the squad's day-to-day operations, directly contributing to the overall test strategy and vision, and liaising with senior stakeholders from other departments and disciplines
  • Create test systems from scratch and develop solutions to verify system / sub-system performance, test for weaknesses, and take charge of non-routine fault isolation, diagnosis and resolution wherever required
  • Work with the wider function on design reviews/output demonstrations, making sure requirements and DfX deliverables are met as you go
  • Implement test and team improvement ideas through metrics analysis of trends, failure modes and test yields
  • Come up with new test/deployment strategies and improvements to tooling/solutions, execute project plans, and ensure the team's work aligns nicely with business goals

And what we're looking for:

  • Demonstrable, strong leadership skills in a technical function (ideally in an established R&D/Manufacturing context)
  • Good grasp of the building test systems from scratch (not web testing) as well as the Systems Engineering lifecycle in general and relevant test methodologies/toolsets
  • Ideally skills with tooling such as LabView / Python / C++ / other similar/relevant offerings, though the leadership elements are far more important here and they are open to people crossing over and training up on the technical fronts
  • Good understanding of requirements analysis, as well as flow-down of higher-level requirements to lower-level sub-systems/electromechanical systems
  • Ability to liaise with people at all levels, add value to strategy/vision discussions, and improve as you go from the top-down and ground-up

This would be a fantastic role for someone who likes the sound of joining an established organisation at a very exciting time and so if this sounds good so far, let us know and apply now with your latest CV for immediate consideration.
