Tax Assistant
A well-established professional services firm is currently recruiting for a Tax Assistant to join their Tax team. The team consists of a Senior Manager and two Tax Assistants, all based in Edinburgh, working on a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, trusts, estates, and other private clients.


The successful candidate can be based at the firm's Edinburgh or Glasgow offices, with 50% hybrid working available.


The Role


  • Preparing tax returns for individuals, trusts, charities, and estates.

  • Advising clients on tax returns, relevant claims, elections, and tax liabilities.

  • Liaising with clients to obtain necessary information and funds in a timely manner.

  • Submitting tax returns and arranging payments to HMRC within relevant deadlines.

  • Handling straightforward HMRC enquiries into tax returns and assisting clients with tax settlements or refunds.


Technical Skills & Experience


  • Recent experience in preparing and submitting tax returns for individuals, trusts, charities, and estates.

  • Knowledge of tax compliance and relevant tax laws.

  • Experience using tax software and HMRC online systems.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a range of clients.

  • Initiative to gather relevant information and complete tasks accurately.

  • Ability to identify areas outside of expertise and seek appropriate guidance.

  • Problem-solving skills to provide effective solutions to client needs.

  • Strong written and verbal advocacy skills.


Business & Work Management


  • Works collaboratively within the team to meet objectives within set deadlines and budgets.

  • Complies with all firm policies and legal/regulatory requirements.

  • Keeps clients and colleagues updated on relevant developments.
