Interim Financial Controller

We are delighted to be partnering exclusively with a growing FMCG & manufacturing business based in Ellesmere Port, who are seeking to appoint an experienced Interim Head of Finance / Financial Controller for an initial 12-month contract. This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced SME environment and is ready to take ownership of the finance function during an exciting period of growth.

Salary/Benefits:

  • £70,000 - £80,000 per annum
  • 12-month contract
  • Hybrid working - 3 days a week on the Wirral

Job Duties:

  • Lead and manage the finance team, ensuring the smooth operation of all financial processes and procedures.
  • Prepare and deliver year-end statutory accounts, ensuring full compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Oversee monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasting, and budgeting processes.
  • Act as a key business partner, providing financial insights and strategic advice to the leadership team to support decision-making and business growth.
  • Implement and improve financial controls, policies, and systems to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, tax advisors, and banks.
  • Ensure compliance with VAT, payroll, and other tax-related obligations.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to develop the skills and capabilities of the finance team.
  • Oversee cost control and profitability analysis, identifying areas for efficiency improvements.
  • Manage financial risks and ensure robust processes are in place to safeguard company assets.

Ideal experience:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in an SME financial controller or head of finance role.
  • Hands-on experience with statutory accounts and financial management in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and commercial acumen.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities to manage and inspire a team effectively.
  • Familiarity with financial systems and a proactive approach to process improvement.
