Senior Finance Officer - Local Authority

We are seeking a Senior Finance Officer to join a dynamic Corporate Accountancy team within a local authority. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with an expectation to attend the office a few times per month.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete monthly CIS returns and VAT claims, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Liaise with HMRC and address VAT-related queries.
  • Monitor and report on financial controls.
  • Support the completion of the annual Statement of Accounts and related processes.
  • Assist with finance systems maintenance and statutory returns.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and liaise with internal and external auditors.

About You:

  • Experience in finance teams within local authorities, public sector, or non-profit organisations.
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Corporate Accountancy experience in local government is highly desirable.
