Responsibilities of the Class Teacher – ASD Specialist:
- Plan and deliver engaging, structured, and differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of students with ASD.
- Create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment that fosters confidence and independence.
- Use specialist teaching strategies to support students with ASD, ensuring their learning needs are met.
- Work closely with support staff, therapists, and external professionals to provide a holistic approach to student development.
- Implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and assess student progress regularly.
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively using positive reinforcement techniques.
- Develop strong communication and relationships with students, parents, and carers.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to the school's safeguarding policies.
Requirements for the Class Teacher – ASD Specialist:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience teaching students with ASD and complex learning needs.
- Knowledge of ASD-specific teaching strategies and interventions.
- Strong behaviour management skills with an emphasis on positive reinforcement.
- A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to teaching.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.
- An enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to apply for one.
