Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Democratic Services Officer for our client a local government organisation in Exeter.
The successful candidate will ensure the effective operation of the organisation’s decision-making structures, to undertake associated administrative duties and to provide support to the Members of the organisation.
Experience as a Democratic Services Officer is essential.
This is initially a 6 month contract with the possibility to extend after that date.
Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:
- Attend meetings, giving advice on the interpretation of Standing Orders, the Members’ Code of Conduct and other constitutional and procedural matters.
- Organise and prepare agenda for meetings of the organisation, Committees.
- Ensure that all reports submitted by Officers are received in accordance with strict deadlines and are consistent with corporate guidelines.
- Administer and publish the Councillor Register of Interests and Other Registerable Interests forms and to provide advice to Members on these matters.
- Write the minutes of meetings and undertake such other follow-up action as necessary.
- Attend evening meetings and to provide cover as required.
- Deal with enquiries and general correspondence in relation to Committees.
Personal Requirements:
- Good general education including GCSE in English and Maths.
- Experience as a Democratic Services Officer.
- Experience of dealing with Councillors (Desirable).
- An understanding of Local Government legislation relating to Committees and the role of Democratic Services (Desirable).
- Understanding of the modern.gov system (Desirable).
Working Hours: 37hrs / 9:00am - 17:00pm / Monday to Friday
Pay: £21.62 per hour
