Principal Structural Engineer Job Overview

  • Strategic Resource Allocation: Collaborate with the Head of Structures to manage team resources, ensuring projects are delivered to the highest quality.
  • Innovative Design Leadership: Translate client briefs into conceptual designs, from inception to completion.
  • Excellence in Delivery: Oversee the entire design process, ensuring compliance with British Standards, Building Regulations, and internal quality protocols.
  • Project Management: Lead day-to-day operations, from initial assessments and scheme drawings to cross-disciplinary coordination, regulatory approvals, and site inspections.
  • Client Engagement: Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • On-Site Expertise: Conduct thorough site visits, documenting findings and ensuring alignment with client expectations and project goals.
  • Financial Oversight: Assist with budgeting, preparing fee proposals, projecting income, and tracking project costs to ensure financial success.
  • Change Management: Monitor and communicate design alterations
  • Team Development: Inspire and mentor team members through clear delegation, goal alignment, and proactive performance management
  • Industry Advocacy: Stay ahead of industry trends, standards, and regulations, promoting the company's reputation while pursuing personal professional development.


Principal Structural Engineer Job Requirements

  • BEng in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Chartered member of IStructE or equivalent (or sue to achieve in next 12 months)
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Tekla
  • Project delivery experience and a proven track record delivering within time and cost constraints
  • Experience of new build and refurbishment across a range of sectors including residential, healthcare., education and industrial and of supporting projects of varying values and sizes.
  • Experience in project management and client facing role and assisting with bids and tenders
  • Involvement of checking and reviewing work of more junior staff
  • UK Driving Licence and own Car
