Job Opportunity: Communication Support Worker

Role Overview: We are looking for a dedicated Communication Support Worker to provide SSE Communication and administrative support within the education sector. This role is essential in enabling individuals, whether staff members or students, to perform their duties effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist individuals in their roles, including arranging and managing work placements.
  • Provide SSE interpretation and note-taking during meetings and phone calls.
  • Support in preparing and adapting resources, and reviewing submitted work.
  • Facilitate communication between individuals and others, both internally and externally.
  • Attend meetings and provide IT support as needed.
  • Encourage and promote the confidence and independence of students or staff.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to team efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and safeguarding policies.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall support in preparing resources that help individuals manage their roles effectively.
  • Offer SSE interpretation support from staff, students, and external contacts to enable clear communication.
  • Attend staff meetings, supporting individuals to access information and communicate as needed.
  • Provide IT support in the preparation of resources, adapting resources, or reviewing submitted work.
  • Support individuals when accessing meetings and communication with others through note-taking and SSE.
  • Assist during visits to students on work placements or during trips and other activities.
  • Enable individuals to encourage and promote the confidence and independence of students.
  • Work independently, referring matters to supervisors when required.
  • Support individuals in communicating information to others about the needs of learners.
  • Maintain current and accurate records of support work and contribute to the delivery of the wider team.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing demands in personal, team, and college workloads.
  • Provide communication support in various settings, including annual reviews, examinations, and meetings.
  • Take responsibility for personal training and professional development needs.
  • Comply with diversity policies and their implementation and development in colleges.
  • Adhere to all health and safety, child protection, safeguarding, and risk management policies and legislation.
  • Ensure confidentiality of information and comply with the Data Protection Act.
  • Follow relevant computer network user policies.
  • Administer risk assessments for new activities and ensure checks are carried out for ongoing activities.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties within the team function, appropriate to this level of responsibility.

Requirements:

  • Strong SSE communication skills.
  • BSL Level 3 (minimum BSL 2 with commitment to achieve Level 3 within 2 years) is essential.
  • Experience working with complex or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing demands.
  • Commitment to professional development and safeguarding practices.
