Area Manager - Suffolk Highways Contract
Location: Ipswich, Suffolk
Contract: Fixed Term (Start ASAP - Finish End of June)
Rate: 380-400 per day Inside IR35
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Area Manager to join the Construction Team on the Suffolk Highways contract with Suffolk County Council. This contract, secured in 2023 for up to 20 years, involves delivering a comprehensive range of highway maintenance and improvement services to benefit residents, businesses, and all highway users in Suffolk.



What You'll Do:


  • Leadership & Management:
  • Supervise and manage on-site schemes ensuring work is performed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to high HSEQ standards.
  • Organize labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor resources efficiently.
  • Develop and lead a team of Scheme Delivery Managers and Agents, ensuring all personnel are competent and well-trained.

  • Project Oversight:
  • Guarantee the implementation of robust Construction Phase Plans, method statements, and safe systems of work before commencement.
  • Maintain meticulous records including site diaries, work activity logs, resource allocations, and as-built documentation.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to ensure the financial performance of projects is on track.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Liaise with network managers, local authorities, community groups, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Work closely with key supply chain partners and participate in Early Contractor Involvement and Traffic Management planning.

  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Contribute to Value Management and Value Engineering reviews.
  • Uphold QSE processes, procedures, reporting, and performance standards.
  • Identify innovative ways tooptimize processes and control costs within agreed budgets.

    What We're Looking For:


    • Qualifications & Experience:
    • IOSH/SMSTS certification.
    • Valid CSCS card.
    • HNC or Degree qualified (desirable but not essential).

  • Essential Skills:
  • A clean, full driving licence.
  • A strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Excellent team working and communication abilities.
