Hours: 37 hours per week (Mon-Thurs 09.30-17.30, Fri 09.30 – 17.00)
Our client, a specialist domestic abuse charity is looking for a Handyperson to join their team.
Synopsis of duties:
- As part of the Housing Management Team, provide efficient and effective caretaking support across including ensuring security and general appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained in accordance with the required standards
- To carry out repairs, improve and provide maintenance support with a broad range of craftsmanship and practical skills throughout the schemes and across all accommodation sites. The work can range from simple building maintenance to cyclical repairs, painting, and gardening.
- Ensure Health and Safety compliance across all provisions.
- Changing light bulbs and ensuring other fixtures and fittings are in good working order
- Minor plumbing and carpentry
- Clearing or cleaning general areas
- Shifting furniture or equipment
- Assembling furniture or equipment
- Garden/landscape installation and maintenance
- Footpath maintenance
- Completing minor plumbing repairs such as fixing dripping taps or running toilet cisterns
- Installing household appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers
- Installing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
- Fitting shelves, hanging pictures and installing window locks
- Conducting emergency audits
- Undertaking basic gardening
- Negotiating the scope of work and timescales with clients
- Completing repairs that may not require a specialised technician
- Completing simple projects such as tiling or other flooring replacement
- Painting and decorating
- Clearing gutters
- Changing filters on air conditioning systems
- Maintaining property exterior through the different seasons
- Repairing windows or doors
- Cleaning facilities regularly
- Repairing equipment and various machines and appliances
- Identifying documenting and reporting maintenance and repair work
- Suggest in additional repairs when identified and needed
- Safety Measures including fitting smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and notices
- Home security/Target Hardening measures including door and window locks, door chains and door viewers
Essential Requirements
- Full driving licence, ability to drive a van, eligibility for fully comprehensive insurance and willingness to travel across Hampshire, Southampton, Portsmouth.
- A relevant building and/or Health and Safety qualification/certificate and knowledge of COSH.
- Experience as a handy person.
- Experience of undertaking building and ground maintenance work.
- Ability to deal with changing priorities and unique situations and respond effectively to these seeking to resolve issues promptly.
- Experience of Planning routine and reactive maintenance.
- Experience of Carrying out property inspections both planned and ad hoc.
- Experience of using use Specialised Tools and Equipment.
