Apprentice Finance Assistant + Day Release

Location - Helsby, Cheshire

(Free parking, and the office is located next to Helsby Station, which has regular trains from Chester, Ellesmere Port, and Warrington)

The Helsby-based Central Accounting Services Team delivers transactional accounting, period-end close and compliance reporting services for a large number of Group businesses (currently c. 60) located throughout the UK and Europe. The number of companies supported is expected to continue to grow in line with the group's fast-paced acquisition strategy.

The team currently employs c. 40 people.

This position would suit someone who is interested in a career in finance. Training will be full time in the Helsby office, and once trained you will be given the opportunity to work from home as well as in the office. This is a full-time role, 40 hours per week (1 day study day)

Key responsibilities:

  • Process supplier invoices and employee expenses onto the paperless automated accounts system for multiple currency databases
  • Checking expense claim receipts against the company expense policy and identifying VAT to reclaim in accordance with HMRC guidelines
  • Reviewing CIS deductions and completing returns
  • Dealing with supplier queries and requests for payment
  • Verification of supplier bank details
  • Processing weekly supplier and expense payment runs
  • Daily bank reconciliations for sterling and multiple currency accounts
  • Reconciliation of supplier statements
  • Raising inter-company sales invoices
  • Maintaining and reconciling cash flow spreadsheet
  • Any other adhoc duties including process improvement initiatives

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSE Grades A* to C (or equivalent) including Maths and English
  • Good communication and organisational skills
