They are seeking a candidate to join the management and be part of our dynamic and growing team.
You will be responsible for aspects of design work from conception through to technical approval/completion on projects ranging from 0.5m to 20m. As well as assisting in the operation and running the structures department with further progression welcome for the right person.
This role is ideally suited to someone who has the following:
* Excellent communication skills, in both written and spoken English
* Minimum 8 years structural design experience in core materials; Concrete, Steel,
Masonry, and Timber
* MIStructE Chartered membership, or working towards with submission within 12 months
What you will do
You will be responsible for managing design quality and profitable delivery and will report to the Managing Director.
Working within a growing successful multi-disciplinary consultancy and operating across a matrix of projects, responsibilities may include:
* Overall responsibility for delivery of projects
* Preparation of fee proposals for Director authorisation
* Delivery of scheme designs and input into scheme design reports
* Delivery of detailed design including full tender and construction packages
* Liaison with statutory authorities, architects, the design team, and contractors
* Attendance at client, design & site meetings, site inspections and reporting
* Resource and Management of engineers & technicians
* Supporting the Managing Director with team targets
* Contribute towards producing bids and tenders
* Carrying out structural surveys of buildings and structures, providing advice on any
issues that may arise
* Analysing and reporting on structural defects and remediation if required
* Co-ordinating and reviewing the production of high-quality written reports on a
range of projects.
* Overseeing engineering design
* Compliance with the duties of Designer under the CDM regulations 2015.
* Managing client expectations, feeding back any matters arising back to Directors.
* Mentoring and developing members of the team
* Preparation of detailed design calculations to British Standards, Eurocodes and
relevant design guidance notes.
* Day-to-day support to colleagues from other disciplines within the office
* Other business development activities such as identifying opportunities and
networking
What you will have
In addition to having a confident, commercial, and professional outlook you will need to have:
* MEng in structural engineering or a first degree in a related discipline
* Chartered Membership or Associate Membership of the ICE or IStructE
* Qualitative and quantitative experience in building structures.
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* Strong communication, analysis, technical design and drawing skills
* A self-motivated team player with good people skills and experience of managing and
mentoring a team.
* Competent Designer with MasterSeries/Tekla experience
* Ability to manage and resource the Structural Team with staff appraisals alongside
training and development
Please note that you would be based full time at the Gateshead office Monday to Friday.
Working Hours
The company operates a basic hourly week of 35 hours
1. Monday to Thursday 08.30am - 17:00pm
2. Friday 08:30am - 12:30pm

1. Monday to Thursday 09.30am to 16.00pm
2. Friday 09.30am to 12.30pm
